Located in downtown Hilo. First opened in 1924. Seventh and eighth grades. Fall 1997 enrollment of 692 students, 48 teachers, and an average class size of 16.7. The school is working toward full implementation of middle school components. Accredited by the Western Association of Schools & Colleges. Moving to integrate newer technologies into instructional lessons and student presentations.
